KACZY

Este fue mi primer guion en la universidad.
Escrito en el año 2006.

El cortometraje narra la historia de un matemático y campeón de ajedrez de la antigua Yugoslavia que, durante la guerra de los Balcanes, emigró a Estados Unidos para continuar su labor docente y cumplir su sueño de participar en el campeonato mundial de ajedrez.

Sin embargo, al descubrir que en su juventud formó parte de movimientos comunistas, el gobierno estadounidense decidió expulsarlo de la universidad donde trabajaba como profesor y vetarlo de cualquier competición oficial.

El destino de “Kaczy” —apodo que recibió durante el campeonato europeo de ajedrez— cambia cuando la Agencia de Seguridad Nacional le ofrece recuperar su libertad a cambio de una jugada maestra.

この短編映画は、旧ユーゴスラビア出身の数学者でありチェスのチャンピオンである男の物語を描いている。バルカン戦争の最中、彼は教育者としての仕事を続け、チェス世界選手権に出場するという夢を叶えるため、アメリカへと移住した。

しかし、彼が若い頃に共産主義運動に関わっていたことをアメリカ政府が知ると、彼は勤務していた大学を追われ、公式チェス大会への出場も禁じられてしまう。

ヨーロッパ選手権で「カチ（Kaczy）」という愛称を得た彼の運命は、国家安全保障局が “ある一手” と引き換えに自由を約束したことで大きく動き出す。

This was my first script in college. Written in the year 2006.

The short film tells the story of a mathematician and chess champion from the former Yugoslavia who, during the Balkan War, emigrated to the United States to continue teaching and to pursue his dream of competing in the World Chess Championship.

However, when the U.S. government discovered that he had once been involved in communist movements, he was expelled from the university where he taught and banned from participating in any official chess tournaments.

The fate of “Kaczy” —the nickname he earned during the European Chess Championship— changes when the National Security Agency offers him a chance to regain his freedom in exchange for one masterful move.
